MAR 22: RAY BRADBURY RETURNS TO MYSTERY BOOKSTORE TO SIGN "WE'LL ALWAYS HAVE PARIS" AT NOON
Sunday, March 22 at 12:00 noon RAY BRADBURY signs
WE'LL ALWAYS HAVE PARIS
William Morrow, $24.99
This is another reason we love living in LA: because we get to see the master of science fiction and fantasy LIVE and in person! The Mystery Bookstore on Broxton in Westwood Village says:
We are thrilled to welcome the legendary Ray Bradbury to The Mystery Bookstore to sign this new collection of stories – 21 stories, never before published, and a poem for good measure. There's something here to delight every Bradbury fan, from science fiction ("Fly Away Home," about Mars exploration) to surreal slices of small-town life ("Ma Perkins Comes to Stay," in which a radio star simply materializes in Joe's living room). Mr. Bradbury will be with us for an hour, and will sign only books purchased at The Mystery Bookstore. We ask that each trip through the signing line be limited to one book per person. Thanks for your cooperation!

FEB 15: FREE "FUEL" SCREENING IN TWO THEATRES, GO!
Here is an email we received at The LA Report - we highly recommend you see this great film, which we reviewed a few days ago - and you even get to go FREE if you read below:
"FUEL, the 2008 Sundance Audience Award winner for Best Documentary, is showing for a very limited time here in LA. Certainly an inspiring environmental film, but more importantly FUEL offers up some new perspectives and possibilities on creating tomorrow's generation of energy sources. Well-produced and the soundtrack is pretty bangin' too. Details at www.thefuelfilm.com.
"In order for this film to get more time in the theaters and national distribution, it needs to get seen by 2000+ while here this week. To help with that, we've arranged two free showings for you and your friends this Sunday night at 7pm (one in Santa Monica, one in West Hollywood). If interested, send an email to Rebecca Harrell (rebecca@thefuelfilm.com) with the word "ABUNDANCE" in the subject line and include your name and choice of theater (see below) for either 7pm show this Sunday 2/15. The filmmakers would love to see a ton of people out in the theater so feel free to pass this offer on to your friends."
7PM: AMC Loews Broadway 4
1441 3rd Street Promenade
Santa Monica, CA, 90401
or
7PM: Laemmle Sunset 5
8000 Sunset Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA, 90046.

NOV 22: Beverly Hills Lighting Ceremony and Holiday Celebration; Free; Fireworks Finale
November 22 brings a favorite festive fete back to Beverly Hills, as they kick off the holiday season with style. Partake of holiday shopping sure to suit every taste, and holiday tastes sure to satisfy every palette.
Holiday street festivities begin at 3:00 pm in the 200 and 300 blocks of Rodeo Drive where adults and children alike will enjoy musical entertainment, balloon artists, and face painters – and, oh yes, have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the big guy in the red suit.
The “big show” starts at 6:00 pm with a live stage show, culminating in the lighting of the spectacular UNICEF crystal snowflake and 20 one-of-a-kind Baccarat chandeliers along Rodeo Drive.
And if that’s not enough, you’ll be treated to the fireworks finale above the iconic Beverly Wilshire Hotel. It’s all free – including the two hours of free parking at the City parking structures on Beverly and Canon Drives.
Nov 22, 2008. Ring in the holidays in Beverly Hills. Free. Location: 200 and 300 blocks of Rodeo Drive. Rumor is that Joel Madden and Nicole Richie may be there (they are listed on the web as being part of this celebration), so there is even a celeb factor here. Heck, it'll be loads of fun no matter who shows up. www.lovebeverlyhills.org.

JUL 18: BEATLES INSIDER KEN MANSFIELD DISCUSSES HIS LIFE WITH THE FAB FOUR; FREE EVENT INCLUDES "THE BACKBEATS" TRIBUTE BAND, BOOK SIGNING, VIDEO DOC
Former Beatles Label Manager Ken Mansfield will speak and sign his book at Rolling Hills Covenant Church after "The Backbeats" band opens the event with live Beatles tunes
It sure is shaping up to be one of the biggest weeks ever for SoCal Beatle activities. There was Sir George Martin taking part in a look back at the making of Sgt. Pepper last Friday at USC, and the Grammy Foundation's Starry Night gala in his honor on Saturday. The Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad currently has an exhibit focusing on Beatles recordings. Now, The LA Report has learned (via KRTH 101.1 FM) that on Friday, July 18 at 7 p.m., Rolling Hills Covenant Church (RHCC) will host a special event in their Worship Center, entitled “The Beatles, the Bible and Beyond: A Long and Winding Road,” featuring Ken Mansfield, Apple Records label manager for the world-renowned rock band. Mansfield will speak authoritatively about the music business of the sixties and his life touring with the Fab Four.
Mansfield became the Beatles’ personal liaison between the U.K. and the U.S. – an association that thrust him into a world that changed his life forever. Mansfield will share his personal journey of being the record executive for the Beatles and working side by side with them in their rise to stratospheric stardom.
This free event will consist of a beautifully produced 20-minute video documentary on the Beatles and Mansfield's life, his personal testimony of his experience, and a Q&A session. A Beatles tribute band, “The BackBeats,” will open the evening by playing some Beatles crowd-pleasing favorites. Following the event, Mansfield will sign copies of his book, The Beatles, The Bible and Bodega Bay (Broadman & Holman), which will be available for purchase. Dessert will be served at the conclusion.
