Celebs Come Out to Support Vital Cause at Face Forward Kick Off Party; Star-Studded Face Forward Gala To Be Held September 15 in Beverly Hills

Posted by Don Rose

Below is a recap of the recently held Face Forward Kick Off Party, a prelude to Face Forward's upcoming star-studded gala that will take place this September. Face Forward is an incredible cause, helping patients who have endured a terrible nightmare and survived, showing tremendous courage and strength. While most of us have been enjoying a summer vacation, survivors Saundra, Mirabel, Michelle and Anna have spent their summer commuting back and forth to the doctor's office to complete a series of dramatic facial reconstructive surgeries, which they have been undergoing in the aftermath of severe domestic violence. With the help of Face Forward, these patients are getting a new lease on life. Deborah Alessi, Founder of Face Forward, is truly an angel for the work she does.

The Face Forward Kick Off Party was a huge success as it brought out a large crowd of current supporters as well as new ones. Linda Thompson and Lisa Gasineau were among the celebrity guests that come to show their support at the party, which took place on July 26th at the fabulous Unici Casa in Culver City, hosted by Face Forward Founder Deborah Alessi. (Event photos below.)

Face Forward will hold its 3rd Annual Gala on September 15th at The Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Tom Arnold & Bonnie Somerville will host.

About Face Forward (www.facela.net):
Renowned plastic surgeon and biochemist David Alessi and his wife Deborah Alessi, CEO of Alessi Skincare, founded Face Forward in 2007. Face Forward is a 501(c) non-profit organization. The organization provides facial surgical reconstructive services for women and children who have been victims of violence through gang or domestic violence. The organization vows to offer each victim with the best possible treatment pro bono. Since its creation, Face Forward has worked with community leaders around the nation to identify victims of violence who are legitimately working toward recovery and who carry the physical evidence of past abuse. Face Forward is only one humble part of the recovery puzzle, however, the immediate results of its healing efforts provide individuals with the confidence to literally put their best “face forward” once again.

Gotta Get a Gorgeous Glow to Go? Before the Fourth? Try Tropic Spa

Get RED, WHITE & BRONZED - Your Healthy Guilty Pleasure

The 4th of July is just a few days away. Whether you're the host of the party or a guest, here is a perfect solution to add a little sparkle to your holiday. A Tropic Spa tan will give you a flawless glow to balance your stars and stripes accessories. While you're enjoying festive cocktails, indulging in some treats and straying from your diet, Tropic Spa can be your healthy "guilty pleasure." In just 12 seconds, a few minutes to dry and a brief touchup you'll be the envy of the party, and you won't need to spend hours in the sun.

The Tropic Spa Home Mist Tanning System is a revolutionary new way to obtain a beautiful and healthy summer glow without the risk of damage caused by being out in the sun or the use of a UV tanning bed.

In a tanning category all its own, here are 5 unique things that set Tropic Spa apart from other sunless tanning products:

1. Easy to assemble, charge for 3-4 hours, adjust the system to hang on the door so the top mister is more or less even with your face, and go!

2. One of the unique features is the built-in electronic timer; each tan delivers an exact amount of tanning solution that covers the entire body in a 12 second application. Overspray is minimal or nonexistent.

3. For the eco-conscious crowd: The system uses steel cans that are 100% recyclable and the gas that is used to pressurize the cans is nitrogen - a high component of the air we breathe everyday. The Tropic Spa tanning solution is supplied in a kit form. The solution is packaged into specially designed cosmetic bladders, then housed into aerosol cans. This bag on valve technology allows 100% pure tanning solution to be dispensed with no cross contamination from propellants or any other material.

4. It's a clear solution so you should allow 4-5 hours for the tan to show and then simply use retouch spray to even out any areas you might have missed or not rubbed in evenly.

5. You can't overtan. By tanning one time every 5-7 days you'll be on your way to a perfect, healthy glow year round.

There appears to be no limit to the storage requirements needed for rich content creation and production.  Higher content resolution and frame rates can generate petabytes of content captured today in a single video production project but with continued growth in resolution and frame rates we will likely see Exabyte requirements in the not distant future.  What are the storage and bandwidth requirements for stereoscopic and high definition content capture?  What storage devices work best in which video production environments?  What are the requirements for animation and special effects creation?  What will the future hold for content capture and creation?  This session will give you information that you will need to create tomorrow’s blockbusters and award winning content.

The Fractal Gallery: Grand Opening

An eclectic collection of eco-beauty

May 23, 2012 is the date for the Grand Opening of The Fractal Gallery in West Los Angeles. The Fractal Gallery will house a variety of eco-luxury items inspired by nature and art including gallery owner Eric R. Doolin’s exquisite paintings. Eric’s oil paintings explore the nature of nature, while ecologically conscious furniture conserves it. On display, Doolin's painting that took 3rd place in the painting category at the 2011 Florence Biennale. Since this prestigious award Eric has been invited to display his work at the Dublin Biennial 2012 Exhibition of Contemporary Art, June 16 –24.

Eric R. Doolin is one of Southern California’s most talented young artists. Whether he’s creating one of his breath-taking oil paintings or designing a beautiful piece of eco-friendly furniture made from hempboard and hemp fabric, his work is truly brilliant and easily captures one’s attention. Doolin is compelled by a philosophical take on the relevance of nature in our visual and spiritual lives. TONIGHT, LATE NIGHT, See One of the BEST TREK FLICKS EVER On the Big Screen! "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan" at The Nuart

by Don Rose

Hard to believe, but yes, 2012 is the 30th anniversary
of "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan", a film that
many Trekkers call the best of all the Trek movies.
It certainly would be hard to argue that point.

Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Chekov
and the rest of the galactic gang's all here,
plus Ricardo "Corinthian Leather" Montalban as the villain,
and a great plot - what's not to love?

So if you love Trek or sci-fi in general and somehow
never saw this movie, or if it's been so long you've
forgotten enough of the film to see it fresh again,
go see it TONIGHT at one of LA's oldest theaters,
The Nuart!
11272 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles
(a few feet from Sawtelle in West LA)
Show Time: 11:59 pm

Paul & Linda McCartney’s Legendary Album RAM set for Deluxe Reissue May 22

The 1971 album will be released across a variety of formats with new and exclusive content, including a beautifully packaged Deluxe Edition Box Set - the ultimate collectible

Paul says, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is an album from a long, long time ago, when the world was different. This is an album that is part of my history - it goes back to the wee hills of Scotland where it was formed. It's an album called RAM. It reminds me of my hippie days and the free attitude with which was created. I hope you're going to like it, because I do!"

Following the successful recent reissues of McCartney, McCartney II, and this year's Grammy winner for Best Historical Album Band on the Run, RAM is the latest album from Paul's iconic back catalogue to get the deluxe Paul McCartney Archive Collection treatment. As with the previous releases in the series, Paul has personally overseen every aspect of the project and the result is spectacular. In keeping with the reissue campaign to date, the Deluxe Edition Box Set is the ultimate collectable for any fan of this album. Its stunningly presented 112-page book, photo prints, handwritten lyrics and notes, four CDs and a bonus film DVD, tells the full story of a classic album that has gone down in music history as one of the most revered in McCartney's catalogue.

RAM, originally released in May of 1971, is the only album to be credited to both Paul and Linda McCartney and was Paul's second post-Beatles LP. It was overshadowed at the time by the drama of the dissolution of The Beatles, as played out in the world's media. The album topped the charts hitting #1 in the UK and #2 in the US. While RAM polarized critics upon its release, music fans and critics alike since have overwhelmingly embraced it, with Rolling Stone, for example, revising their original review up to 4 stars.  Recently RAM has enjoyed even further re-appraisal and acknowledgement including a number of tribute albums.

RAM was written by Paul and Linda, mostly at their Scottish farm on the Mull of Kintyre. In the autumn of 1970 they flew to New York to start the recording process. Without a band in place they auditioned and drafted musicians, who included future Wings drummer Denny Seiwell and guitarists David Spinozza and Hugh McCracken.

The band completed the album in early 1971 along with non-album tracks 'Another Day' and 'Oh Woman, Oh Why' which were released together as Paul's first post-Beatles single ahead of the release of RAM and became a Top 5 global hit. The multi-disc editions of the RAM reissue include both songs as bonus tracks. The album also gave Paul his first solo US number 1 single with 'Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey' and a Grammy win for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists.

RAM was also issued in mono with alternate mixes, which were only made available to radio stations at the time. This version has gone on to become one of the most sought after McCartney collectables. It will now be commercially available for the first time ever on CD as part of the Deluxe Edition as well as a limited run on vinyl.

1977 saw the release of Thrillington, an instrumental interpretation of RAM, which was originally recorded in 1971 at London's Abbey Road Studios and was arranged by Richard Hewson. It was released under the pseudonym Percy 'Thrills' Thrillington, an unknown eccentric socialite who often cropped up in mysterious newspaper classifieds. In reality Percy was a character devised by Paul and Linda. The idea behind it was simply to have some fun and the concept of doing a full orchestral album was an ambition long held by Paul.

The additional film content features previously unreleased and exclusive content including the brand-new documentary, "Ramming", narrated by Paul, as well as the original music videos for 'Heart Of The Country' and '3 Legs'. The remastering work was done at Abbey Road using the same team who recently remastered the complete Beatles' catalogue.

RAM will be available across a variety of different formats:

·         Standard Edition: 1 CD digipak Single disc, digitally remastered 12- track standard edition

·         Special Edition: 2 CD digipak Remastered album and 8-track bonus audio CD including rarities, b-sides and the hit single, 'Another Day'.

·         Hi-Res: 24bit 96kHz files of the remastered and bonus audio CD, accessed via a download code inserted on a card within the deluxe edition package

·         Vinyl: 2LP 180gm, gatefold vinyl with download Remastered album, bonus audio disc plus digital download of all 20 tracks

·         Limited Edition Mono Vinyl: 1LP, Remastered mono album

·         Digital: RAM will be available for download across a variation of digital configurations including Mastered for iTunes and High Resolution

The folks at Slake sent me an email so chock full of goodness, I wanted to share 3 highlights from it.
