OCT 31: HALLA GALA HALLOWEEN BASH To Benefit SMMoA at Bergamot Station (Featured Event)

Posted by Don Rose

The first annual HALLA GALA Halloween extravaganza is one of our Featured Events for this weekend, and it sounds amazing in several respects. Not only will there be food and drink in abundance and an artistic ambiance to revel in, but Leonard Nimoy -- yes, THE Leonard Nimoy, who has lived long and prospered as both actor and celebrated photographer -- will be there as well, and some guests will even get a portrait taken by the man himself. As for costumes, guests are encouraged to come as "your secret self" — your alternate identity or inner persona — as you take part in an evening of fantasy, fashion, and fun to benefit the Santa Monica Museum of Art. Purchase tickets online now.

Pump It Up For Breast Cancer Awareness Month With Kim Kardashian & ShoeDazzle

      by Don Rose

Calling all fashionistas! Just wanted to make you aware of a site called www.ShoeDazzle.com, a monthly online “shoe society” co-founded by celebrity style icon and reality star Kim Kardashian. For $39/month a team of celebrity stylists (led by Kim, who serves as Chief Fashion Stylist) select five styles of shoes for you based on your unique fashion personality and tastes. You then choose which of the five you like best and those shoes are sent to your doorstep. $39 is a great value since it includes a stylist, shoes, and the cost of shipping, and it’s easy to opt out any month you don’t find a pair of shoes you love.

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, ShoeDazzle came up with a creative and stylish way for you to join the cause. For BCA Month, ShoeDazzle has teamed up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to offer a Limited Edition Breast Cancer Awareness Shoe, the pink “Stephanie” pump. Ten percent of the proceeds from each Stephanie pump sold will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

BCA is a personal cause championed by the company. For starters, the pump is named after the loved one of a ShoeDazzle employee who has a rare form of breast cancer. Also, Kim found her grandmother’s experience with breast cancer to be life-altering, so the company wanted a way to show their commitment to prevention and awareness — and they wanted to do it in style.

UPDATE: when this special pump became available at the beginning of October, demand was fantastic! Savvy shoe shoppers stepped up to the plate and ShoeDazzle completely sold out of the pump, in record time. And here's good news for "shoe-ppers" who want to join in the cause now: the shoes are still available to everyone who joins/visits the site. Spread the news about these shoes!

SHOEDAZZLE AND BREAST CANCER AWARENESS — SUMMARY

. ShoeDazzle has teamed up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

      ABOUT CAMPANILE
This charming commercial building was built by Roy Sheldon Price in 1928 for silent screen star Charlie Chaplin and his second wife, Lita Grey Chaplin. The architect, Roy Sheldon Price’s notable achievements include the Beverly Hills home of Mrs. Lita Grey Chaplin in 1930 in the old California Monterey Ranch style. Campanile came into focus in October of 1987. Originally, locations were scouted in New York City’s Soho District. When this building was discovered by Larry Silverton and wife Doris, it was falling apart and full of numerous tenants; a piano school, a car rental office, two artists’ studios and a massage parlor, all of whom agreed to vacate, some only with the understanding that the building would not be destroyed, as some possible buyers were looking to tear it down. Architect Josh Schweitzer came aboard and oversaw the renovation of the building, using every effort to keep it in its original form and beauty. It was brought up to earthquake standards, a roof was added to the courtyard and a wall was built along the sidewalk. But the brick walls, push buttons for lights, iron treatment around the windows, and the tile fountain remained just as they were. Where original tile needed to be replaced they carefully researched and matched the new tile to the old. The name “Campanile”, which means “bell tower” in Italian, was chosen due to the tower above the roof. Although fake, it was part of the original building designed for the Chaplins. Chef Mark Peel, along with former business partners Nancy Silverton and Manfred Krankl, opened the La Brea Bakery on December 31, 1988 and Campanile on June 16, 1989. Campanile’s sun-drenched entrance features a Spanish fountain featuring the famed art of Malibu Tile Company and a spacious bar that opens into the dining area. The center atrium features a casual dining room which offers a view of Campanile’s kitchen and its culinary team led by Chef-Owner Mark Peel. To the back of the restaurant, two private dining & event rooms on the second floor overlook a formal dining room which features an old-world environment.
