WHEN KOBE PASSED JERRY: BRYANT TOPS WEST AS ALL-TIME LEADING LAKER SCORER
by Don Rose
Congrats to Kobe Bryant, who just passed fellow Laker legend Jerry West to become the team's leading scorer of all time.
West was the genius who brought Kobe to the Lakers in the first place, so perhaps it was fitting that Kobe scored 44 points in the game that got him the record -- 44 being the number of Jerry West's (now retired) jersey.
The LA Times website has a page featuring the latest list of All-time Lakers scoring leaders - latimes.com -- and if you're wondering where Wilt is, the list only counts points scored as a Laker; "Wilt the Stilt" Chamberlain spent part of his career with the Warriors and the 76ers, where he racked up a heckuva lotta points, including 100 in one game.
For more about Kobe's feat, go to http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/columns/story?id=4879125. Jerry speaks about Kobe in the video.
