The LA Report's no-brainer do-gooder site of the day: FreeRice.com. Have an entertaining time while learning new words and helping the planet. In the FreeRice online game, you see a word and must decide which of four possible meanings (words or phrases) best defines that word. Answer correctly, and FreeRice donates rice; every right answer means FreeRice.com donates 20 grains of rice through the UN World Food Program, to help end hunger. You can keep playing (matching up definitions for new words) as long as you like. It's fun, educational, and helps other people; what could be better? Go now!
(If 20 grains of rice doesn't sound like much, remember the power of Collective Action, repeated often. The power of many people acting together for a unified purpose is a very potent force indeed -- and that is something the Internet excels at. Example: according to the FreeRice site, 86,732,200 grains of rice were donated yesterday alone.)

MAY 2: GOLF, GUITARS, GOOD DEEDS AND GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS AT THE 12TH ANNUAL SKYLAR NEIL GOLF TOURNAMENT
Vince Neil is perhaps best known as the front man for the legendary rock group Mötley Crüe. But thanks to his Skylar Neil Foundation he is also widely recognized as a man who generously gives back. After losing his five-year-old daughter Skylar to cancer in 1995, Vince dedicated himself to raising awareness and much needed funding for children’s illnesses. The Skylar Neil Memorial Golf Tournament is a product of those efforts, and the 12th annual event is right around the corner. With generous support from both he mainstream and adult entertainment world, the tournament has raised millions for various charitable organizations dedicated to Cancer, Leukemia and AIDS research.
This year’s tournament will take place on Friday May 2nd at the scenic Lost Canyons Golf Club in
As in past years, the adult community will be heavily involved with the tournament. Previous adult sponsors have included Playboy, Vivid, Wicked Pictures, Elegant Angel, Pure Play Media, Red Light District, Hustler, Zero Tolerance and many, many others. Adult stars such as Jenna Jameson, Ron Jeremy, Danni Ashe, Randy West, Jessica Drake, Brianna Banks, Savannah Sampson,
The time is now to get involved. As always, the tournament is looking for sponsors. Tee, pin-flag and golf-cart sponsorships are all available. With options starting as low as $500, sponsorships are a great way to get your company logo, products and name out the participants. In addition, you or your company can be part of this fantastic event by playing, providing product for golfer gift bags, or by sending talent to sign autographs and pose for pictures with participants on the course.
Additionally, girls are needed. Girls, girls, girls in fact. The more the merrier. We need some lovely ladies to man all 36 holes of the two courses. It is a great way to meet fans, sign autographs, pose for pictures and keep the players smiling as they play.
For further information on playing in tournament or becoming a sponsor, or for info on other ways to get involved, please contact tournament coordinator Alan Koenig at (615) 255-9000, or email him at alankoenig@bellsouth.net. You can also visit the tournament's website at www.skylarneil.org/golf.

CANADIAN AUTHOR CALVIN HELIN OFFERS SOLUTIONS FOR GETTING U.S. OFF WELFARE & PRODUCTIVE AGAIN; "DANCES WITH DEPENDENCY" HITS U.S. BOOKSTORES IN APRIL
Neal Public Relations is representing #1 Bestselling Canadian Author Calvin Helin, whose book "DANCES WITH DEPENDENCY" makes its U.S. debut in April 2008. Helin is a former member of the Canadian Parliament and a native Indian -- and just might have key answers our nation needs as the United States financial system continues to be rocked by a severe crisis.
In "Dances with Dependency," Calvin Helin, a leading North American Native lawyer, offers ways to eliminate welfare dependency and get out of poverty. Helin helps us understand, how formerly colonized populations have been forced into welfare and a dependency mindset. His message is a call to action to change our thinking so that we can break that cycle of dependency and actively steer our lives. And yes, he is 'politically incorrect' at times as he offers his key solutions including doing away with typical welfare systems and government assisted programs. Instead he would like to create more interactive programs that could generate business opportunities and jobs. His unique approach would be of interest to any taxpaying American, especially as heated debates continue in this election year. Plus, Helin's welfare reforms might just jumpstart our economy, freeing up billions to enable more of our citizens, perhaps even all, to enjoy the benefits of healthcare.
Helin is a straight shooter, unafraid to say it as he sees it, even if it means pointing the finger at his own people. His "Did our ancestors sit around eating potato chips?" continues to raise eyebrows, as does his "Every welfare check eats a bit at a man's soul!" The author is on a crusade to help the poor understand that the key to a brighter future is when policy reform meets individual responsibility and self-reliance.
Colleges and universities are starting to use "Dances With Dependency" as a way to explain fundamental Native issues and how social stigmas sometimes perpetuate a problem instead of solving it. Perhaps Helin's refreshing perspective and constructive solutions can bring hope to some desperate situations.
Helin is joining a new generation of Native leaders who are looking to put an end to government dependency and replace it with a return to self-reliance. He reminds us at every corner that we're headed into a "Demographic tsunami" as our poor population continues to explode while our economy implodes -- unless we reframe our mindsets and empower our children to seek and make their own opportunities instead of expecting them and waiting for them.
Calvin Helin will be coming to the U.S. in April/May to promote this book, and is available for Interviews by calling Roger Neal of Neal Public Relations at 714-883-0231 or by emailing Mr. Neal at prstarus2000@yahoo.com. To View an interview with Calvin Helin, see: http://www.nealpublicrelations.com.

KU AMBIANCE BASH DRAWS DESIGN/ART PROFESSIONALS AS WESTWEEK KICKS OFF AT NEARBY PACIFIC DESIGN CENTER
(West Hollywood, CA: March 26, 2008) The LA Report was very impressed with Ku Ambiance, a new unique store/showroom/designspace, located just a block east of the PDC (a.k.a. the Pacific Design Center, or the Blue Whale to some insiders), where the 2008 edition of Westweek kicked off today. Many Westweekers attended tonight's festive party at the new space, which lasted almost till midnight and featured wonderful sushi as well as delectable desserts.
Ku Ambiance just launched at the recent CA BOOM design/architecture show, and their space (located on Huntley, a few feet north of Melrose) has an open Asian-themed feel, featuring an eclectic assortment of beautiful items, from custom commodes to cool clothes to a varied array of handmade vessels and porcelain creations. (Oh, and cute bobbing-head tigers; one man proudly showed off a pair as he departed.) Unique is the key word here, as all of the items at Ku Ambiance are made in limited quantities and hence superior quality and craftsmanship. Every design/fashion/art professional should definitely check out this wonderful new addition to the Melrose design district.

EVENT PLANNER NEWS: CENTER OF ATTENTION FEATURED ON E!; WOWS AT OZZY & SNOOP DOGG WEDDING VOWS
Center of Attention Inc., a full service special event production company based in Burbank, California, recently planned the nuptial renewal of Snoop Dogg to his wife Shante, which aired nationally on the E! television network. As featured in the final episode of Snoop Dogg’s Fatherhood show, the rapper’s assistant found Center of Attention after making dozens of phone calls to planners, hoping to find a coordinator who could plan the ceremony in just two days. Huge relief came when they did find the perfect coordinator, who had previously planned the renewal of Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne.
With two days notice, C of A's coordinators pulled it together in splendid style. They shipped orchids overnight from Thailand to create a wall of flowers suspended from the tent. Behind the ceremony, they decorated a fountain dripping with strings of flowers and floated the candles on palm leaves, while decking the ceremony with silk black chairs featuring Swarovski Crystal pendants. Upon special request, their baker even served a Blue Velvet Cake.
About Center of Attention
After Founder/President Michele Fox Gott graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Theater Arts degree, she moved to Chicago, where she integrated her production skills into event production. In 1997, she moved to Burbank, California where she started Center of Attention. The office, based on Burbank Boulevard, features a team of Special Event Producers who specialize in making events happen in record time. In 2003, Center of Attention received the Gala Award from “Special Events Magazine” for Best Event Produced for a Private Individual, honoring their work coordinating Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne’s wedding renewal, which was aired live on MTV. Additional clients include Larenz Tate, Moon Unit Zappa, Zakk Wylde, Tony Iommi, Director Rober Luketic (Legally Blonde), Yamaha, EMI, MTV and VH1. The company's work planning Snoop Dogg's wedding renewal ran repeatedly on the E! network.
For more information about Center of Attention, see their website at www.centerofattention.com. To inquire about bookings, please contact Michele at: michelefoxgott@yahoo.com. Phone: 818.842.7800. Fax: 818.842.7882.
One final note: here is an excerpt from a blog testimonial about Center of Attention that we found at jonathinks.blogspot.com:
I love attending weddings ... Can't help but be mesmerized by the wonderful details such as the bridal gown, the flowers, the cake, the entourage, the walk and of course, the kiss. But before all these would happen, it's a great task putting up all these together. I have recently glanced upon Snoop Dogg's Wedding Renewal and it's really wonderful. The venue is literally in the middle of nowhere land near an alpaca ranch but Center of Attention made an amazing job of turning it into their dream wedding. These people are capable of creating a destination wedding from just about anywhere a client can dream of. Center of Attention also headed the planning of Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne's Wedding Renewal at the Beverly Hills Hotel which aired on MTV on New Year's Eve 2004... a spectacular event coz it was also Sharon's 50th Birthday Party ... they built a shopping mall from scratch with sponsors recreating their storefronts and handing out their gifts. Saks Fifth Avenue handed out watches, Godiva handed out 1 pound boxes of Chocolate Truffles and Maxfield (Ozzy's favorite store) designed shirts with crucifix with the word peace in French. No wonder they won their highest industry award, the Gala from "Special Events Magazine" because of what they did in that three in one party. If there's any idea you have in mind for your next event, Center of Attention can make it a reality for you, exactly how you want it to be.

RETRO REWIND: WANDA JACKSON, QUEEN OF ROCK AND ROLL
Wanda's live version of "Hard Headed Woman" is just one example of how she rocks your socks off -- in high heels, no less, with fringe aplenty swinging 'round, a pelvis to match Elvis! Her recent album "I Remember Elvis" pays tribute to The King, who Wanda once dated, and it's available at her site. Best of all, unlike Elvis, you can still see Ms. Jackson rocking around the U.S.; in fact, she appeared in Long Beach last night. See her website for future show dates, and hear her unique vocal stylings on the cool rockabilly-themed show "Red Hot" (which airs many rockin' artists of the Wanda genre every Sunday at 2pm on KCSN 88.5 FM). Hail Hail Wanda Jackson!

WEBPAGE OF THE WEEK: WIL WHEATON'S WORK (GOOL GAME REVIEWS FOR AV CLUB)
Yes, I said GOOL, not COOL, although it is really both. Let me explain...
So I happen to be browsing around one of The LA Report's favorite websites - AV Club (a sister pub of The Onion, another fave) - when I see a webpage devoted to games (GOOL - Games Of Our Lives). Then, I notice that EVERY review is by Wil Wheaton. I knew he was a gamer, but this is, like, total page domination. He clearly loves games, making his reviews fun to read.

MAR. 22: UNITARD CLOSING RECEPTION FOR "MARQUEE FOR ME", EXHIBIT FEATURING CLASSIC VIDEOGAMES & THEIR MARQUEES
Do you want to spend Saturday night at a fun art party, downtown, at a place called Unitard? Then this is it! Their CLOSING RECEPTION will be this Saturday night, MARCH 22. Their email says:
I know that it was a little too moist outside for some of you folks to make it inside for the Marquee For Me opening back in February, but the forecast is clear for this Saturday March 22nd, which funnily enough, is the closing date for this wonderful show. If you guys didn't make it, you probably should try and swing by, it has been a fun one, and we even got some new games for the arcade portion of the show. There are even still some choice light boxes left for sale, some of which puzzle me that they didn't go in the first round. If all of this seems a little strange, don't worry; I've included the original write-up for this guy.
Hope to see you all Saturday, Sven
Here're the details:
Yes, this is it! Over a year of pestering, help with shows and countless notes dropped off when I'm not here later; Cocaine Mule and Unitard unite. The glorious cause for celebration resided deep within the vaults of The Vintage Arcade Superstore. After a few visits and several hours of dirtying our fingers in the shelves, comrades Trevor and Tyler from the Mule and myself unearthed what we found to be some of the most outrageously exquisite classic video game marquees that you've never seen. Why? Well, they're classic examples of what design used to be. So, each will be presented in lovely light boxes, constructed by the same hands that dug them out of obscurity; and you can even take them home and bask under the warmth of eighties design each and every night. For the most part the titles featured in the show are forgotten relics, but there may be a game or two we've singled out that may ring a bell. However, the only bell that'll be is the tenth round bell right before on of these incredible marquees delivers a knock-out combo of nostalgia and flawless design to knock you on your keester.
Sound intriguing? Well…
That's not all! Of course, some weird video games, which you may or may not remember, will be primed and ready for play, again, courtesy of the Vintage Arcade Superstore. Anything else? You'd better believe it! Some kind of giant light cube peppered with classic arcade titles is providing illumination for the show; the walls are being painted black and Cocaine Mule Bags aplenty will dangle from any and everything worth dangling from. Oh yeah, need I mention refreshments? This sounds like a dream… Classic design, video games, practical satchels and booze to boot!?! You'd better not miss it. I hope to see you there.
Thanks, Sven, Trevor and Tyler
What: Closing Reception for: Marquee for Me a look back at the arcade's golden years. When: Saturday, March 22nd, 2008 8pm – 12am. Where: Unitard 706 E 1st St LA, CA 90012 ; 213.926.5034 ; aplacecalledunitard.com

Tastemaker: A designer or artist whose work or personal style sets a new standard or trend. Now, the Tastemakers profiled in the monthly column are coming together for one remarkable showcase of their creativity in a gallery exhibition featuring work by L.A.-based style trendsetters across all arts disciplines that influence consumers around the world.

The “Style Star of Tomorrow” contest allows emerging talent to vie for the honor of being selected as someone to watch. Viewers cast their votes for their favorite artist.
Now, from Wednesday, March 19 through Sunday, March 30, an exhibition featuring L.A. Tastemakers’ work (created and installed by FIDM / The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising) will open to the public -- featuring mural art created by renowned street artist Chase. RUTLES RE-INVADE AMERICA! RUTLEMANIA CONCERTS, RUTLE RADIO HOUR AND RUTLE REUNION EVENT MARK 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF "ALL YOU NEED IS CASH"
RUTLES Special Event! Ron, Dirk, Stig and Barry Reunite March 17th as Original Film and Rarities Screen at the Egyptian
Event Listing by Don Rose
March marks the 30th anniversary of the premiere of the Rutles film "All You Need Is Cash" and you are invited to celebrate. The Mods & Rockers Film Festival (a perennial Best Bet of The LA Report) is presenting the official 30th anniversary celebration of The Rutles at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Eric Idle, Neil Innes, Ricky Fataar and John Halsey (Rutles Dirk, Ron, Stig, and Barry respectively) will be the guests of honor at the March 17th special event.
What is planned, you ask? There will be a screening of the original 1978 version of the film. There will also be a treasure trove of Rutles rarities that will be presented at the event including the rarely-seen 1975 British TV skit that inspired the film, Rutles-related footage from "Saturday Night Live" (SNL) and highlights from the 2003 film "Rutles 2: Can't Buy Me Lunch."
In case you've been living under a rut, The Rutles (a fab band that satirized The Beatles) first entered American consciousness on SNL, in a Hard Days Night type video featuring the Beatlesque band "whose legend will last a lunchtime" (and mirrors the history of The Beatles to a tea). Neil Innes penned the fresh, fun tunes in "All You Need in Cash," which are not only clever recombinations and reinventions of Beatle musical DNA, but just plain great pop songs in their own write (to borrow a bit o' Lennon). The LA Report recommends you GO-go to this once-in-a-lunchtime event!
March 17. Two Shows: 730pm and 1030pm. Q&A between shows. First show sold out. The Rutles will partake in a Q&A after the first screening (7:30pm show) and will introduce the 10:30pm show. Plus, we hear the evening may feature a couple of musical surprises! More information on the Rutles special event, taking place at the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Blvd near Highland, is available at www.modsandrockers.com. You can also read the recent LA Times article about The Rutles.
Also recommended by The LA Report are two other Rutle-related events. On Sunday March 16, KLOS FM's excellent "Breakfast With The Beatles" show will have all four Rutles in the studio during the 11am hour. Plus, there are RUTLEmania concerts all week! Read on:
RUTLEmania! Concerts by the "Pre-Fab Four" at the Montalban
Not the Rutles, but an incredible simulation! That's right, a simulation of a satirization. But since the Rutle songs are fantastic, and they parody the best band ever, The LA Report loves it. The Fab Four (a Beatles tribute band in "real" life) will become The PRE-Fab Four for FIVE nights of live Rutle classics! GO!
The location is the Ricardo Montalban Theatre on Vine, just a couple of blocks south of the Capitol Records building and the John Lennon star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! But enough about the real Fab Four, this is about the tribute band called The Fab Four, who will be transformed into the "PRE Fab Four" for this tribute concert of all-Rutles music! If you actually understand all this, then groovy, baby -- grab your Number One or Goosestep Mama, eat some Cheese And Onions till you scream Ouch!, then Get Up And Go to the show! The LA Report will be there, so you should too.
Dates: Saturday, March 15 at 8 pm; Sunday March 16 at 5 pm; Wednesday, March 19 at 8 pm; Thursday, March 20 at 8 pm; and Friday, March 21 at 8 pm.

EVENT REPORT: RUTLEMANIA ROCKS HOLLYWOOD, WITH ALL FOUR RUTLES ATTENDING MULTIMEDIA SHOW STARRING THE (PRE-)FAB FOUR
by Don Rose
(March 16, 2008 - Hollywood, CA) It is safe to say that Chuck Berry was the first Poet Laureate of Rock and Roll. Once the torch passed to a new generation, Lennon and McCartney and Dylan became the Poet Laureates of rock's reinvention. But when one considers the realm of rock satire and homage, The LA Report hereby nominates Neil Innes as the Poet Laureate of Parody Pop. His talents as songwriter were on full display tonight at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre, where the second of five "RUTLEMANIA" shows played to a packed audience (including all four original Rutles) tapping toes to the tunes of Innes, as played with perfection by Beatle tribute band The Fab Four (billed as The PRE-Fab Four for the five shows taking place this week).
I know what you're thinking. A simulation of a satirization? Yes, and it works. The combination of film/video footage projected behind the live band makes for a potent mix. The visual clips are composed of segments from the original 1978 film "All You Need is Cash" plus the "Rutles 2" sequel, featuring interview snippets with many stars, including Paul Simon, Garry Shandling, John Belushi (as Rutle manager Ron Decline, modeled on post-Epstein Beatle manager Allen Klein), Gilda Radner, and in the clip that got the greatest applause, George Harrison as a silver haired newsman interviewing Rutle Corps rep Michael Palin as the Rutle office gets robbed blind behind them. All of this is blended seamlessly with, and enhances the effect of, Neil's superbly crafted music. The Fab Four, who already have the Beatles down, prove they have mastered the Rutle song catalog as well. The show is in two parts: the Early Days (early-60s--2-minute-tunes--lovable-moptops--pre-1967ish), then intermission, then the Later Days (psychedelia, dropping tea, marriages, film flops and breakup).
The songs in "Rutlemania" include hits from the original album (we especially love "Cheese and Onions" and "Piggy in the Middle"), plus gems from the Rutle sequel song set "Archaeology" -- released in the 90's to coincide with The Beatles' own "Anthology" series. The "Archaeology" album (produced by Martin Lewis, who was at tonight's show along with original Rutles Innes, Eric Idle ("Dirk") - who devised and directed Rutlemania, Ricky Fataar ("Stig") and John Halsey ("Barry")) is, like the first record, filled with melodic masterpieces that combine witty imagery, catchy riffs and whiffs of Beatleness into a magical medley of music. Some Rutle songs sound very close to Beatle originals (example: "Get Up and Go" is about 80 percent "Get Back") while others can take some time to tease out the Beatle genetics, but all share great craftmanship and a love of pop hooks that please the ear while stimulating the mind with clever lyrics. Just the Rutle title "Blue Suede Shubert" encapsulates how perfect the parody is. The title combines/tweaks Beatle influences "Blue Suede Shoes" and "Roll Over Beethoven" -- but the actual song is not a mere mashing up of two classics. Instead, Innes fashioned a fresh, fun new tune that uses the verbal pun as an imaginative starting point for a solid rocker.
After the show, I had a chance to chat with Mr. Innes -- the Lennonesque Ron Nasty in the original Rutles and the mastermind behind their tunes -- who displayed a great deal of warmth, English charm and a genuine love of the Rutle phenomenon. I asked if he wrote the Rutle songs with the Beatles firmly in mind from the start, or whether he tried to create great pop tunes and then massage them into Beatlesque form. He said it was the latter approach, that the Beatleness was shaped mainly in the songs' post-production phase. Neil also wanted to encourage everyone to come and see the remaining shows, expressing a strong desire for the show to continue for a longer run -- and we at The LA Report have to agree, five shows seems way too short. Hopefully, if the crowds continue as packed and enthusiastic as tonight's, the show will indeed be extended.
Hail Brittania, and Rutlemania!

TEXT TECH: ODIOGO CREATES AUDIO FROM TEXT; TURN BLOGS INTO PODCASTS, READERS INTO LISTENERS
By Don Rose
-
Imagine you don't have time to read someone's cool blog (like, say, this one), or some other website with text. Instead of driving and reading - a taxing test of your multitasking skills - imagine you can just get the audio version of that same text and listen on the go on your iPod.
Such is the promise of ODIOGO, a service that could just be what's next in text.
I assume Odiogo is a play on the words AUDIO and GO (yes, we are sharp folks here). Bloggers or other webmasters may find this tool very useful indeed, to turn text readers into audio listeners without having to do much extra work (just add an Odiogo button to a posting and visitors can get an audio version of that post's text). More info at http://www.odiogo.com/ where you can read text like this description excerpt:

PBS CONCERT ALERT: CHANTAL CHAMANDY'S NIGHT AT THE PYRAMID AIRS ON KVCR THIS WEEK
Chantal Chamandy’s A Night at the Pyramid will be airing on Sun 3.16 and Tues 3.18 on local PBS station KVCR in Los Angeles
Ninemuse Entertainment presents the release of Chantal Chamandy's Beladi, A Night at the Pyramids airing on PBS through March. We at The LA Report hear that this is an eye catching show. Chantal Chamandy is one of the few people to have received permission to perform at the pyramids, and the set design and choreography was done by Guy St-Amour and Geneviève Dorion-Coupal, who have previously worked with Cirque du Soleil.
On a personal mission to promote peace through cultural exchange, Egyptian-born Canadian artist Chantal Chamandy returns to her native country to perform an extraordinary concert at the majestic Pyramids of Giza and Great Sphinx, accompanied by the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and her troupe of ten dancers. This marks the first time ever a concert was permitted to be filmed at the base of the Pyramids on the Giza plateau and offers a breathtaking, illuminated view of the last remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Visually enhanced by striking choreography, elegant staging and a dynamic light show, the concert includes an emotional rendition of "Somewhere" from West Side Story, two traditional Arabic songs ("Salma ya Salama" and "Helwa ya Beladi"), and Chantal's original compositions ("You Want Me," "Peace," "Let's Talk About You" and many others). Filmed September 7, 2007, the performance features guest appearances by the Egyptian National Ballet Company, Tanoura dancers, a Darbouka drum band and an Egyptian marching band.

EVENT REPORT: ARTIST DANIEL MALTZMAN THROWS BOFFO BIRTHDAY BASH WITH STARS AND STELLAR MUSIC
All-Star Birthday Celebration for Hot Los Angeles Artist Maltzman Brings Out Stars, Media, VIPs, and Musical Talent Galore
Event Report by Don Rose
(March 8, 2008 - Culver City, CA) On the eve of LA Fashion Week, Daniel Maltzman Studio was the setting for a wonderful birthday party thrown by star artist Daniel Maltzman. An excellent all-star band (featuring Matthew Moon and members of the Gin Blossoms) serenaded the celeb-filled party, which featured a fun atmosphere, a festive feast of food, free-flowing libations (Izze and Monster drinks being faves of The LA Report) and a wine bar. Not only is Daniel a fantastic artist (his celeb portraits and red bull paintings seemed to be guests' favorites), but he is very gracious and warm. His parties are always high-energy affairs filled with interesting people from a cross section of creative disciplines, and tonight was no exception.
Celebs in attendance during the packed four hour bash included, of course, birthday boy Daniel Maltzman, plus actor Armand Assante, the Gin Blossoms' Scott Kusmirek, recording artist Matthew Moon, H&G Network host Jennifer Convy, Malcolm Danare ("CSI Miami"), Nickolai Stoilov ("Lana's Rain"), Olga Rosin ("Fros/Nixon"), filmmaker Pac Arias (director of the film "P3RSONA"), rapper DJ Verrett, plus dozens of Hollywood's movers and shakers including publicists Monique Moss and Charles Sherman, manager Larry Hummel, entreprenuer David Canter, and author/GOGI coach Mara Leigh Taylor. The LA Report also enjoyed talking with the founder of Runway Magazine (http://www.runwaymagazinela.com/), a cool new online beauty directory that we recommend you check out, just in time for LA Fashion Week.
Maltzman, a mid-career artist who was born and raised in Beverly Hills, is known for celebrating the fashionista lifestyle in much of his work. His celebrity series of images can be found at various hotels and restaurants throughout Los Angeles, as well as on his website http://www.danielmaltzman.com/ ; they are collected by a “Who’s Who” of entertainment industry notables. The party this evening afforded guests an inside look at the premises of the artist’s working studio in the heart of Culver City -- directly across from the heart of LA Fashion Week, Smashbox Studios.
Special thanks to Daniel's press representative, Monique Moss, for her assistance.
EVENT REPORT: SUCCESSFUL HAWAIIAN-THEMED GALA DRAWS HUNDREDS IN SUPPORT OF CATHERINE BAUKNIGHT'S DOCUMENTARY "HAWAII: A VOICE FOR SOVEREIGNTY"
Event Report posted by Don Rose
(Los Angeles, CA - February 29, 2008) Award-winning photojournalist Catherine Bauknight hosted a stellar evening in Hollywood in support of her pilot documentary "Hawaii - A Voice for Sovereignty" - a gala, green-carpet soiree at hotspot Boulevard 3. Celebrities, members of the press and distinguished guests all came out in support of her latest documentary work. The 250+ guests, some coming from as far as the Hawaiian Islands and Las Vegas, included actor Armand Assante (American Gangster), Silvia Suvadova (Kolja), Kyle Swann (Ned's Declassified), Andrew Roach (Forever Strong), Cassandra Hepburn (Hellride), Michael Guarnera (The Centurion), Greg Lindsay (Las Vegas) and Vanetta Smith (Freedom Writers), who came to show support for this important issue.
All of the celebrities were welcomed to Boulevard 3 with traditional Hawaiian leis provided by Simply Exotic Floral and Leis. The entire venue was beautifully adorned with Hawaiian-themed décor and lovely floral arrangements. The evening showcased special appearances and performances including an introductory chant led by Hawaiian Sovereignty supporter and Sioux tribal elder Running Deer. A Hula dance group preformed under the direction of Hula Master Halau Keali'i O Nalani gracefully displayed the ancient Hawaiian art form. Also on hand were Guy Aina and Hanalei Colleado (both featured in the film), who took part in the celebration.
The most pivotal moment of the night was of course the screening of Hawaii - A Voice for Sovereignty, which was not only positively received but especially validating to all the Hawaiian guests who had traveled so far to come see and support this important work.
In addition, the night was complimented by a silent auction, with generous donations, as well as various sponsored cabanas. The event was made possible in part by a fiscal sponsorship from IDA (International Documentary Association), a non-profit organization supporting documentary filmmaking (http://www.documentary.org/). Additional sponsors included Pasadena Weekly (http://www.pasadenaweekly.com/), Women In Photography International (http://www.womeninphotography.org/), Froote Jewelry (http://www.frootejewelry.com/), eco-fashion designer Linda Loudermilk (http://www.lindalourdermilk.com/), Erewhon Market (http://www.erewhonmarket.com/), Swagg News (http://www.swaggnews.com/), Runway Magazine (http://www.runwaymagazineinc.com/) and Duke Kahanamoku of Swimboat. Additional kudos to FREE FM radio host Linda Salvin, as well as "Cornell and Bosham" radio host Lydia Cornell, for their on-air support.
About the film
"Hawaii - A Voice for Sovereignty" spotlights the culture of the Hawaiian indigenous people and their connection to the land. It explores their struggles of the Hawaiians to reclaim their ancestral lands. In rare and moving interviews, the Hawaiians reveal their fears about the imminent loss of their culture and their land as overdevelopment threatens an ancient and environmentally sustainable way of life. "Hawaii- A Voice for Sovereignty" - the 10 minute short version - was selected from among 1,000 submissions to premiere at the Maui Film Festival in June 2007, and also screened at the Hana Film Festival in November 2007.

NEW YORK GOVERNOR ELIOT SPITZER, FAMED CORRUPTION-BUSTER, LINKED TO CALL GIRL; APOLOGIZES FOR HIS "RELENTLESS PURSUIT OF IRONY"
Gov. Eliot Spitzer, the crusading New York politician who built his career on rooting out corruption, including prostitution rings, has now been linked to a high-end hooker. Spitzer apologized Monday for what he called "my shameful and relentless pursuit of irony."
The governor's comments came after allegations surfaced that he paid thousands of dollars for the call girl who, ironically, shared the governor's love of irony. Spitzer did not elaborate on the scandal, which drew calls for his resignation.

BUZZ MUSIC: "TWO LIPS: THE LOST ALBUM" (aka HOMER'S BEATLES HOMAGE)
"TWO LIPS: THE LOST ALBUM" is the brainchild of The Simpsons' voiceover star Dan Castellaneta. Premise: what if you discovered a lost Beatles album circa 1967, chock full of pop gems? This would be it!
I just heard some tracks from "Two Lips" on Chris Carter's "Breakfast with the Beatles" show this morning. Great stuff! March on over to SpiralFrog (or Amazon or other music sites) and take "Two Lips" for a spin. Lovers of great pop music (especially The Beatles and The Rutles) will not be disappointed ("Dog Chasing a Ball" and "Disillusion Street" being two great tracks highlighted on BWTB today).

MAR. 1: FREE HOTDOGS AT PINKS (GET IN THE PINK!)
A source tells The LA Report that PINKs, the legendary hot dog stand on La Brea just north of Melrose, is giving the first 500 customers on March 1st a FREE HOTDOG. Same source says this is all courtesy of the FARRELLY BROTHERS. A TV show promo, perhaps?
All we know is, here is your chance to get in the pink when you get into Pinks. Just don't blame us if the line is 500 strong when you get there. (Advice: early bird gets the 'dog.)
