Harry Shearer: Comic Genius, LA Legend, and... Aging Terribly?

by Don Rose

So I happen to find the Harry Shearer page on Twitter tonight,
by accident (like I find most cool or useful stuff on the Internet),
and Yikes! -- I gaze in shocked horror at the photo on his page (see pic below).

Which makes me wonder (worried) whether weeks of withering whirlwind touring
(with mates Christopher Guest and Michael McKean
on the "Unwigged and Unplugged" Tour - http://www.unwigged.com)
has taken too terrible a toll. Or maybe this is just a candid no-makeup life-at-home "real life" pic.
(Unwigged indeed!) Or perhaps Harry is Jiminy Glick's older (more talented) brother.

Whatever the truth turns out to be, it doesn't change my opinion
that this old codger (and octogenarian, I assume) is one of the
wonderful wits of the West. His humor (exhibited in abundance
on his excellent radio program "Le Show") always induces much laughter,
and frequently makes you think; can't ask for much more than that.
Harry's mind and voice come across as much younger than his 80-90+ years,
so he must be doing something right (probably juicing or Shuffleboard or both).

In closing, all I can say to Harry is (loudly):
"Rock on, Mr. Mirth!" And thanks for inspiring other celebs
to (hopefully) post more honest pics of themselves in the future.
As Albert Einstein once said, "Imagination is more important than looks."
Or maybe it was Heisenberg.
There's some uncertainty.
But one thing is certain: Shearer's sheer genius.
