SEP 7: KCRW to Launch New Online Music Channel Eclectic24 on Labor Day, 9am PST
On Labor Day, September 7, 2009, KCRW will launch Eclectic24 -- a new, online, all-music channel blending the collected talents and tastes of all the station’s DJs into a single voice streaming 24 hours a day. Always on, no time slots, no appointment needed – just the best of KCRW whenever and wherever you want it. KCRW’s newest online music destination will be entirely unique as it will encompass the whole scope of the public radio station’s musical footprint over the last 30 years, integrating new musical discoveries from across KCRW’s talented team of DJs with the best of our exclusive live performance and interview archives.
The new channel will debut – on air at KCRW 89.9 FM and online at KCRW.com – on Monday, September 7 from 9am to midnight (with a break for news from 5 to 7pm). After the Labor Day premiere, Eclectic24 will be available online, all the time, at www.kcrw.com/eclectic24 and by clicking the ALL MUSIC tab at the top of KCRW’s home page.
“Music fans still want to be surprised and turned on to something completely unexpected -- that’s the beauty of radio. What’s special about this new channel is that it combines those fresh ideas with the rich history of our station in a non-stop music stream for our fans worldwide,” said KCRW Music Director and host of Morning Becomes Eclectic Jason Bentley. “Our online-only music stream is already one of the chief reasons people visit KCRW.com and Eclectic24 will truly reflect the essence of everything that we are, musically.”
Eclectic24's programming curator is longtime KCRW DJ and former music director, Chris Douridas. According to Douridas, "The music hosts at KCRW have a great appreciation for each other, so this is a very appealing concept as I will be foregoing the traditional block sets you hear on our regular on air shows and instead seamlessly integrating all our tastes and voices with classic sessions from musical icons that have appeared on the station over the years, as well as features like the Guest DJ Project and Today's Top Tune.”
The new Eclectic24 landing page will offer exclusive giveaways, a weekly album chart, and a dynamically updated interactive playlist. The impact of Santa Monica-based public radio station KCRW has always reached far beyond the community in which it is based, with listeners streaming the station in more than 180 countries – from Singapore and Iceland to Ghana and Peru. The station’s move online in 1995 and early foray into podcasting exposed a huge international audience to our programming and Eclectic24 c ements KCRW’s place as a unique and vital resource for independent music discovery.
KCRW-FM, licensed to Santa Monica College, is National Public Radio's flagship station for Southern California.
