The first annual HALLA GALA Halloween extravaganza is one of our Featured Events for this weekend, and it sounds amazing in several respects. Not only will there be food and drink in abundance and an artistic ambiance to revel in, but Leonard Nimoy -- yes, THE Leonard Nimoy, who has lived long and prospered as both actor and celebrated photographer -- will be there as well, and some guests will even get a portrait taken by the man himself. As for costumes, guests are encouraged to come as "your secret self" — your alternate identity or inner persona — as you take part in an evening of fantasy, fashion, and fun to benefit the Santa Monica Museum of Art. Purchase tickets online now.HALLA GALA HONORARY HOSTS

This charming commercial building was built by Roy Sheldon Price in 1928 for silent screen star Charlie Chaplin and his second wife, Lita Grey Chaplin. The architect, Roy Sheldon Price’s notable achievements include the Beverly Hills home of Mrs. Lita Grey Chaplin in 1930 in the old California Monterey Ranch style. Campanile came into focus in October of 1987. Originally, locations were scouted in New York City’s Soho District. When this building was discovered by Larry Silverton and wife Doris, it was falling apart and full of numerous tenants; a piano school, a car rental office, two artists’ studios and a massage parlor, all of whom agreed to vacate, some only with the understanding that the building would not be destroyed, as some possible buyers were looking to tear it down. Architect Josh Schweitzer came aboard and oversaw the renovation of the building, using every effort to keep it in its original form and beauty. It was brought up to earthquake standards, a roof was added to the courtyard and a wall was built along the sidewalk. But the brick walls, push buttons for lights, iron treatment around the windows, and the tile fountain remained just as they were. Where original tile needed to be replaced they carefully researched and matched the new tile to the old. The name “Campanile”, which means “bell tower” in Italian, was chosen due to the tower above the roof. Although fake, it was part of the original building designed for the Chaplins. Chef Mark Peel, along with former business partners Nancy Silverton and Manfred Krankl, opened the La Brea Bakery on December 31, 1988 and Campanile on June 16, 1989. Campanile’s sun-drenched entrance features a Spanish fountain featuring the famed art of Malibu Tile Company and a spacious bar that opens into the dining area. The center atrium features a casual dining room which offers a view of Campanile’s kitchen and its culinary team led by Chef-Owner Mark Peel. To the back of the restaurant, two private dining & event rooms on the second floor overlook a formal dining room which features an old-world environment.
Niki Shadrow began her career after migrating from the beaches of Malibu to the nightlife of Los Angeles. Niki graduated with a degree in Merchandise Marketing from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, where she is now an active member of the FIDM Alumni chapter and frequently speaks on panels. Niki’s styling career began while she was still in college. To date, Niki has styled celebrities such as: Jillian Barbarie Reynolds, Paris Hilton, Carmen Electra, Kimberly Caldwell, Jenny Garth, Jason Priestly, Simon Rex, Amanda Bynes,, Ali Landry, Daisy Fuentes, Karina Smirnoff, Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag, Janice Dickinson and The Pussycat Dolls to name a few. Niki later transitioned to the world of print, by becoming a Life & Style Editor, Fashion Editor, booking celebrity covers and writing syndicated columns for several entertainment, lifestyle and fashion magazines. Niki's experience over the last decade has included: event production, sponsorship coordinating, lifestyle consulting, celebrity styling, magazine contribution, fashion show production, photo shoot production, as well as coordinating and hosting red carpet events. Niki has also been featured onOxygen, Fox, E!, VH1 and Bravo.

This singer/songwriter/producer graduated from Yale University with a degree in psychology and philosophy and an emphasis on music cognition. While in school she released music with Warner Brothers Records, Om Records and King Britt’s label, FiveSix. She’s worked with R&B artist Van Hunt, Hip-Hop artists Apl from the Black Eyed Peas, Mr. Lif, Rich Medina and Now On, and house and deep soul music legends Vikter Duplaix, King Britt, Jay Denes, and Jay J. Most recently Michelle has been working on her forthcoming debut full-length, Sevenly, with producers Alex Elena (producer and co-writer on Alice Smith’s recent Grammy-nominated album on Sony) and Joshua Valleau. Just like Michelle, her sound is wide-ranging and multi-faceted, with influences across the spectrum – she defines the inspired style as “trans-genre.” The end result is, quite simply, a breath of fresh air.
